So it’s official! I’m part of the round 2 judging panel for the Cybils in the Elementary/Middle Grade Speculative Fiction category. And I’m delighted! Last year was my first time both as a blogger and as a Cybils’ judge, so it’s wonderful to have a second opportunity to be involved!
For those of you unfamiliar with the Cybils Awards here’s a direct description from their website:
“The Cybils Awards aims to recognize the children’s and young adult authors and illustrators whose books combine the highest literary merit and popular appeal.”
The judging panels are made up of children’s and YA lit bloggers like yours truly. Starting October 1st, everyone is invited to nominate one title per category that fits the eligibility requirements. Please do stop by and nominate your own favorite titles that are published between October 15th, 2013 and October 16th, 2014. For more information check out Cybils’ FAQ here.
First round judges take on the enormous task of looking at every book nominated in their particular category. They narrow down the choices to a small list of finalist titles and then the second round judges read all the finalists to choose the winner. I had a wonderful time last year and look forward to the book discussion and debates to come!
